Receives Transparency Certificate of Excellence
February 13, 2015 – Big Bear, CA — The Big Bear Airport District has received the District Transparency Certificate of Excellence by the Special District Leadership Foundation (SDLF) in recognition of its outstanding efforts to promote transparency and good governance.
The airport’s award has drawn attention from proponents across the state, including California State Assembly Member Jay Obernolte. “As a proponent of transparent government and local control I applaud the Big Bear Airport District for their efforts to reach out to the taxpayers to let them know how their money is being spent.” Assemblyman Jay Obernolte stated, “The staff of the Big Bear Airport District should be very proud of their work, and I look forward to them continuing their goal of a transparent, open and accessible government.”
In order to receive the award, a special district must demonstrate the completion of eight essential governance transparency requirements, including conducting ethics training for all board members, properly conducting open and public meetings, and filing financial transactions and compensation reports to the State Controller in a timely manner.
The Big Bear Airport District also fulfilled fifteen website requirements, including providing readily available information to the public, such as board agendas, past minutes, current district budget, and the most recent financial audit.
Finally, the district demonstrated outreach to its constituents that engages the public in its governance, through a community engagement project and community transparency review.
